In 2006 my father died from cancer. As just a senior in highschool, this solidified my choice to enter the heath field for my career. My fathers faith, personal strength, and support of family and friends, helped him during his 16 month battle. I have since then continued to see how stressors or support of a patients life outside of the hospital can directly relate to the healing and/or progression of the disease process. As a nurse, my philosophy of healthcare is to primarily care for the patient but secondarily provide support and care for their families. As healthcare providers we need to be emotional and mental supporters of our patients but also their families. I saw first hand how my knowledge of understand my fathers disease helped him and me to cope with his disease process that he was facing. I believe that this can ultimately help patients heath and complete the care circle.Updated: April 23, 2013 - 2:15pm - by Yvette Saliba
