I had been close to my grandfather since I was a young child. He was kind, patient, everything I thought someone should be. He died when I was seventeen and I was devastated. It wasn't until some time later that I realized the pieces of him that have lived on the through us: my mom's smile and laugh, my brother's love of history. I want to take that into my Philosophy of Healthcare. Regardless of my personal boundaries, a piece of me will go to the people I treat and their families. That piece of me should come from the most caring part of myself. To me, it is the reason we are called care givers.
