- To provide graduates with skills necessary for successful employment as entry-level radiographers.
The graduate will:
- Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, positioning, and radiographic techniques to accurately demonstrate anatomical structures on a radiograph or other imaging receptor.
- Understand basic x-ray production and interactions.
- Safely and efficiently operate medical imaging equipment and accessory devices.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).
- Determine exposure factors to achieve optimum radiographic techniques with minimum radiation exposure to the patient.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills relating to medical image processing.
- Evaluate radiographic images for appropriate positioning and image quality.
- Apply the principles of radiation protection to the patient, self, and others.
- Provide appropriate patient care and comfort.
- Recognize emergency patient conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid and basic life support procedures.
- Detect equipment malfunctions, report same to the proper authority, and know the safe limits of equipment operation.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion in the technical performance of medical imaging procedures.
- Participate in radiologic quality assurance programs.
- Provide patient/public education related to radiologic procedures and radiation protection/safety.
- Support the profession’s code of ethics and comply with the profession’s scope of practice.
- Completely perform a full range of radiologic procedures on children and adults in the following categories:
- Head/Neck
- Abdominal/Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary
- Musculoskeletal
- Thorax
- Trauma
- Bedside
- Surgical
- To provide a pool of radiographers meeting our performance standards for employment on the practitioner and specialty levels at Florida Hospital and other health care facilities.
- To provide graduates who have developed an understanding of their place on the health care team in order that they may ultimately know both their responsibilities and limitations and be able to interpret their role to others.
- To provide radiographers who appreciate education as a continuing process and understand that learning is an individual responsibility.
- To provide continuing education for the purpose of creating a competent environment conducive to the education of students.
- To provide graduates who relate a Christian philosophy in the care of patients.
- Program Enrollment Goals:
- Retention Rate of not less than 60%.
- Attrition Rate of not more than 40%.
- Graduation Rate of not less than 60%.
- Credentialing examination pass rate of 90%.
- All graduates seeking employment are employed in the field of radiology within three months of graduation.
