Thank you for your interest in the online CT and/or MRI certificate programs offered by Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (FHCHS). Changing times lead to changing employment trends. The employment outlook for competent, skilled, advanced imagining specialists remains positive.

It takes commitment to continue your education. The FHCHS online CT and/or MRI certificate programs offer technologists the opportunity to further their education and grow in their profession. Our programs are designed with your busy schedule in mind. With our online delivery system, no campus visits are required. FHCHS has been a leader in online education for many years. We have designed our one-year CT / MRI certificates around the same successful mode used for our Bachelor’s completion degree programs.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition is $290/credit hour for the 2009-2010 school year plus $290/trimester matriculation fees.

Course Sequence

The first course, beginning during the Spring trimester, Sectional Anatomy is 14 weeks long. During the last five weeks of that trimester, students also enroll in a second course, Introduction to CT/MRI.

The Summer trimester consist of three courses. The first seven weeks, students take Physics & Instrumentation of CT or MRI, followed by the second seven week session of two courses, CT or MRI Pathology & Case Studies and CT or MRI Imaging Procedures. These last two courses work together to provide the student with the protocols to perform general and advanced procedures along with corresponding images and case studies. Many of our images come directly from cases from Florida Hospital, thereby bringing real-life scans to the courses.

The final trimester consists of two courses; Advanced Procedures & Technology in CT or MRI and CT or MRI Registry Review. Each course is seven weeks in length (taken one at a time during the 14 week trimester.) The complete program is a total of 20 credit hours.

Course Delivery

A reliable computer system is necessary to participate in the online CT and/or MRI certificate programs. Course lectures are designed in Flash media, a dynamic way to learn. In addition, we have transcribed all of the audio/voice-overs into a transcript for students to take along with them as they study. Online assignments, quizzes, and research papers enhance the learning experience. The courses are delivered via ANGEL Learning Systems®. At various times throughout the course, the section instructor will deliver a 50-minute live chat session, whereby students can interact, ask questions, and network with others. High speed internet access is required for chat sessions. Chats are not required and you are not penalized if you do not attend. Once enrolled in the program, communication between the student and the course instructor will be conducted through the internal e-mail system in ANGEL Learning Systems®.

Clinical Component

Clinical education is available for students in the greater Orlando area on a limited basis. FHCHS does not require that all students complete the clinical education component. However, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requires completion of multiple competency examinations under the supervision of ARRT-registered technologists (see www.arrt.org for specific requirements.)

If you already have a commitment from your facility to act as your clinical site, you do not need to register for the clinical courses. You will only need to register for the didactic courses. If you are completing clinicals independently, you do not need to submit anything to the College. However, you will need to follow the clinical competency guidelines set forth by the ARRT concerning appropriate documentation.

The clinical education component does not have to be completed concurrently with the didactic courses. However, a student completing the didactic courses has a two-year window in which he or she can apply for the FHCHS clinical education component. Keep in mind that before you decide to sit for your registry exam, you must have a record of completion of the clinical requirements.

For more information regarding the clinical component, please contact the Department of Radiologic Sciences at 407-303-7747 ext.1106882.

Advanced Imaging Registry Examinations: In order to sit for the ARRT CT or MRI registry exams, you must be an ARRT-registered Radiologic Technologist or Nuclear Medicine Technologist. NMTCB-registered Technologists are also eligible. Basic x-ray machine operators (BMO) are qualified to sit for the ARMRIT registry for MRI only. They do not qualify to sit for a CT-registry exam. For more information on the ARMRIT-registry exam, go to www.armrit.org.
