Admission

Applicants1 are considered for admission when they meet general College admission requirements (see General College Admission in Admissions Information section) and have:

  1. Fall 2007 - A minimum cumulative high school unweighted GPA of 2.70 and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 in EMS2 (for students with fewer than 24 hours of college credit) or a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.70 and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 for all completed cognate courses.
  2. Beginning January 2008 - A minimum college GPA of 2.70 on all pre-requisite courses and a minimum college GPA of 2.70 on all cognate courses.
  3. A minimum official composite score of 60 on the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) with individual scores of 60 on the Reading composite and 60 on the overall Math composite. Students whose composite score is between 60 and 70 will be required to participate in a student success program.
  4. Three satisfactory references submitted on FHCHS recommendation forms. Recommendations submitted at the time of initial application to the College will meet this requirement for FHCHS students enrolled in non-nursing courses.3 Students who have attended FHCHS for at least one trimester must submit one of the recommendations from a full-time Pre-Professional faculty member.
  5. A one-to two-page typed essay explaining their interest in becoming a nurse and the reason for selecting FHCHS.

A student may apply to the nursing program at any time. Students must complete and maintain a 2.70 GPA in all cognate and prerequisite courses to be eligible to enroll in nursing courses.

A student may repeat only two cognate courses one time each to remain eligible to enroll in the nursing program.

Admission to the Associate of Science Degree Program is limited by available clinical/class space.

1 Applicants who wish to transfer from another Associate degree nursing program will be evaluated individually, according to the Nursing student transfer policy.

2 EMS includes: English, math, and science courses.

3 Recommendation forms expire three years after receipt by the Office of Enrollment Services.

Nursing Student Transfer Policy

Students who are currently enrolled in a nursing program who wish to transfer to the FHCHS Associate Degree Nursing Program must meet the following criteria to be considered for admission:

  1. Meet the Associate degree program admission requirements.
  2. Complete all cognate and general education courses with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70 prior to enrolling in nursing courses.
  3. Obtain a current minimum cumulative nursing GPA of 2.70 in all completed nursing courses.
  4. Submit three satisfactory references on FHCHS recommendation forms, including one from the nursing program from which they are transferring.
  5. Submit a one-to two-page letter explaining their desire to be considered for transfer to FHCHS and interest in becoming a nurse.
  6. Demonstrate satisfactory validation of nursing knowledge and skills.

Students requesting to transfer to the FHCHS Associate Degree Nursing Program will be considered for placement into 100 level nursing courses only. Acceptance is not automatic and is contingent on available clinical/class space.
