Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

The unsubsidized loan has the same requirements and loan limits as the subsidized loan program except it is not based on need and the interest is the responsibility of the borrower. Students may pay the interest while they are in school, or they may have it capitalized (added to the principal balance of the loan). The combined loan amounts from the Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans may not exceed the loan limits at each level as noted in the Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan section above.

Independent students at the freshman and sophomore levels may borrow an additional $4,000, and juniors and seniors may borrow up to $5,000. All financial aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance.

To see when the dollars have been credited, the student may look online at my.FHCHS.edu, MARS (My Academic Resource System).

Students are not eligible for Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans while on Provisional acceptance status. Students on Probation will become eligible during second trimester if they achieve a 2.00 GPA and have successfully completed 60% of the credits attempted. In most cases, the loan will be retroactive to the beginning of their first trimester.
