An Incomplete (I) is assigned when extenuating circumstances, such as illness, the death of a family member, or a family emergency, prevent a student who is passing a course from completion of final assignments and other course requirements by the end of the trimester. Students must request an incomplete grade in writing from the course instructor. The instructor determines whether an incomplete grade is appropriate, and submits the request to the Registrar’s Office with approval from the department chair.
To change an Incomplete, a student must submit all completed work established by the department. If required work is not completed by the established deadline, an Incomplete will automatically be changed to the grade earned by the work completed minus the outstanding work. A student who cannot complete course requirements by the specified deadline may request an extension from the instructor and department chair.
Students are assessed a charge for the processing of an incomplete grade. Refer to Fee Schedule in the Financial Information section.
